The main purpose of warehouse accounting is to concentrate stocks, storage them, and ensure an uninterrupted and rhythmic supply of consumer orders. A warehouse or a set of warehouses, together with the service infrastructure, forms a warehouse. Warehouses form one of the main subsystems of the supply chain. The logistics system forms organizational and technical and economic warehouse requirements, sets goals and criteria for the optimal functioning of the warehouse system, and determines the conditions of cargo handling. In turn, the organization of the storage materials, namely the choice of the location of the warehouse, the method of materials storage has a significant impact on the distribution costs, the size, and movement of stocks in various parts of the logistics chain. The negative side of warehouse accounting is an increase in the cost of goods due to the costs of keeping stock in a warehouse, as well as various types of losses. In addition, the creation of stocks leads to the immobilization of significant financial resources that could be used for other purposes. Therefore, product accounting is only justified if it allows reducing costs or improving the quality of logistics services, and achieving a faster response to demand or savings on preventive purchases at lower prices. An objective need for specially equipped places for keeping stocks exists at all stages of the movement of material flows, starting from the primary source of raw materials and ending with final consumption. This explains the presence of a large number of types of a warehouse.
The choice of the warehouse form is associated with solving the issue of owning a warehouse. There are two main alternatives: acquiring ownership of warehouses or renting public warehouses. The key factor in choosing between these options or their combinations is the volume of warehouse turnover.
